"It is time for us to light our pipes as one, in prayer for
understanding and healing." Ted Silverhand
|
|
For the past several days now,
we, along with millions of others in every country, have watched in horror, the
mass destruction of part of our civilization. We have viewed some of the most
gut wrenching news video of chaos and death so defying and putrid we can almost
smell it. Our hearts are pulled as we watch our brothers and sisters struggle
for survival as bodies of their loved ones float down flooded streets. We are
amazed as young and seasoned police officers with broken spirits, leave their
brothers and sisters on the force to search for their own families. We light
our pipes in sacred ceremony and offer prayers for those who have lost the
fight and for others who are left in brokenness.
Yet, in the midst of complete darkness and utter devastation,
arise heroes with inhuman strength who come to help the weak and assist the
discouraged. We felt a sense of pride and respect when we saw the police
officers and fire fighters of New York begin to arrive in New Orleans and
Mississippi. These were the same men who had already endured the 9/11 tragedy
just four short years ago this very week. They were there to help their
brothers and sisters win the fight. Joining them was the Mexican Army driving
across the borders for the first time since the 1800's to do whatever they
could to help us. There are countless stories of survivors helping each other.
People opening their homes, teachers opening their arms and healers doing their
work with amazing strength and love. Perhaps one of the most moving stories was
of the young six year old boy who was leading a host of younger children he
didn't know, by the hand, to safety. He watched over each of them until help
finally arrived.
Heroes of every shape,
size and colour have begun to emerge from everywhere. Race and religion are not
noticeable now. How much money one has or how large their house may be is of no
consequence. For the moment, political persuasion is not considered for love is
all that really matters. Love heals broken spirits and gives one the courage to
survive, to rebuild and move toward the future with confidence that the sun
will shine eventually and better days are just ahead.
As we look inward, all of us have had tragic losses in our
lifetime. There are more to come. The ancient prophecies say that there will be
much death and destruction upon this earth. Weather experts tell us that
weather patterns will become more severe. Some of us will choose not to go on
any farther. We will choose to stay right where we are in our darkness and
depression. Others will refuse to give up no matter what comes before us. We
will not give in to being a victim because we know that life is still worth
living. We choose it to be that way. We have more love to give because we know
that love can change the world......no matter what has happened.
In love, we send a call to all our beloved
readers. It is time to light our sacred pipes in prayers for our sisters and
brothers who are struggling. It is time to renew our commitment to praying for
others and offering them love from our own spirit. It is time to pray for
Mother Earth as she writhes in pain for the way we have treated her. It is time
for us to ask for strength and for love so that we may all be healed.
...always know that you are never alone and that the Great
Mystery walks beside you and is with you on your journey.
